Pudge Cakes boutique bake shop opening this summer in New Hope

Pudge Cakes is a whimsical bake shop and boutique where all of the artisan products will be made by hand in small batches, according to owner Elisa Migliacci. Her focus is on using “only the highest quality, freshest ingredients, including as many organic items as possible. No boxed or canned products here,” she added.

Migliacci says she’s trying to create the feel of a favorite childhood kitchen rolled up into a nostalgic neighborhood bake shop, with treats a mother or grandmother might have offered. “I have been baking all my life. I was practically raised in my Italian grandma’s kitchen while my mom was working to support my brother and me,” said Migliacci. “Many of my recipes are passed down from generations.”

Formerly trained as a toy designer (she once worked for Mattel), Migliacci has also designed children’s clothing and served most recently as the marketing and promotions manager for a large luxury spa. Her background is evident in her approach to baked goods: “My cakes are delicious as well as works of art. I have a fun, quirky style that will be evident the moment customers walk through the door,” she said.

Among the baked goods featured will be cakes, cupcakes, artisan decorated sugar cookies, bars and specialty desserts. Pudge Cakes will also offer custom designed items like wedding, specialty, sculpted and novelty cakes. The shop will retail baking essentials like sprinkles, cupcake wrappers, celebration candles, baking kits, vintage-inspired aprons, kitchen wares, vanilla beans and paste, and cookie cutters.

“I will also be offering classes on artisan sugar cookies decorated with royal icing, baking cakes, gumpaste flower making, and fondant cakes, and I’ll be carrying the supplies to continue making them at home,” added Migliacci.

Pudge Cakes is located at 45 N. Main St.; 215-862-5060.
