About Us/Contact Us

Established in 2012, the New Hope Free Press is an online-only news outlet that is locally owned and covers the communities of New Hope Borough and Solebury Township in Bucks County, Pennsylvania as well as the City of Lambertville in Hunterdon County, New Jersey.

Our passion lies in our community, and we are devoted to holding those in power, institutions, and our community accountable. With a commitment to honesty, directness, and compassion, we report on both positive and negative local events. Our primary objective is to keep the community of New Hope, Solebury, and Lambertville informed and engaged.

Our funding is primarily obtained through local advertising, community support, content licensing, and some national advertising. In some instances, we may receive grants for specific types of reporting, which will be explicitly mentioned in those stories.

Founder Charlie Sahner established the New Hope Free Press in 2012 and operated it until 2021. Since November 2022, Tom Sofield, the publisher of LevittownNow.com and NewtownPANow.com, has owned and operated the publication.

Our publication adheres to a fact-based, in-depth, contextual, and non-partisan approach to journalism, reflecting our deep commitment to reporting the truth.

In line with Bill Moyers’ words, we believe that “there is no more important struggle for American democracy than ensuring a diverse, independent and free media. Free press is at the heart of that struggle.”

As a local news outlet, the New Hope Free Press is an active member of the community it serves. We aim to report on local events in a compassionate, honest, and direct manner, acknowledging that although we love our area, we are not afraid to hold it accountable when necessary.
