Fire and hazmat crews secured a propane leak that closed down a part of the City of Lambertville.
The City of Lambertville Fire Department was dispatched to North Union Street at 4:12 p.m. Tuesday while crews were in the process of clearing a separate marine rescue call.
At the scene, firefighters found two 100-pound propane tanks in the rear yard of a local business. One of the tanks was actively leaking, creating a visible vapor cloud in the area, the fire department said.
A resident on North Union Street said traffic was blocked between Buttonwood and Elm streets during the incident.
Fire crews established a hose line as a precautionary measure while awaiting additional assistance.
The Hunterdon County Hazmat Unit was called to the scene and performed a “flare-off” to safely burn away the remaining propane from the leaking cylinder, the fire department said.
The second tank was secured and removed by the gas company.
After the leak was contained, crews conducted a sweep of neighboring businesses.
All structures were cleared after technicians found no residual gas readings.
