Hunterdon County is on track to implement a $2.3 million upgrade to its computer-aided dispatch (CAD) and records management systems.
Brayden Fahey, director of the Department of Public Safety and the county’s Office of Emergency Management coordinator, provided an update on the project at the July 15 Hunterdon County Commissioners meeting.
The new CAD platform is being developed in collaboration with firm CSI and is scheduled for final implementation and deployment on Oct. 1.
Fahey highlighted that many of the final system enhancements being implemented were recommended by staff.
The updated system will provide unified, countywide records management services for police, fire, and EMS, which is expected to improve operational efficiency.
The shared services model in the county is anticipated to deliver cost savings, particularly for local fire departments.
Commissioner Zach Rich, the liaison to the Hunterdon County Department of Public Safety, noted the importance of the investment.
“Our emergency response teams deserve the best tools available to protect our communities,” Rich said. “This investment modernizes our dispatch and recordkeeping systems while saving taxpayer dollars. Many of the enhancements we’re implementing came directly from feedback from our own first responders, which makes this upgrade not just smarter, but also tailored to the real-time needs of our personnel.”
