New-Hope Solebury School Board Director Valerie Mitchell has resigned, and the board will appoint someone to serve out her term until December, 2015. She was elected in 2011.

Mitchell resigned because her “other personal and professional commitments would not allow her to ably serve the community in the manner she wanted,” said a board official.

According to the district’s position description, “Applicants must be residents of either New Hope Borough or Solebury Township. Each interested applicant must submit a letter of interest, resume, and responses to advance questions. The advance questions may be obtained on the district website.

“All applicant responses must be submitted in writing no later than 12 p.m. on March 24, 2014. Please submit application materials to: Stuart Perrone, School Board Secretary, New Hope-Solebury School District, 180 W. Bridge Street. Interviews of finalist candidates will occur on April 1, 2014, with one appointment on April 1, 2014.”

  • What other qualifications should applicants have besides residency?

If I remember correctly, there were some very good candidates who ran against the current new Board members last November. They seem to have a lot of experience and know-how. They were independent thinkers. What a great addition that would be!
