Two City of Lambertville employees were taken to a hospital for evaluation Tuesday after being exposed to a cleaning agent at the Lambertville Municipal Utilities Authority (LMUA).

The exposure to peracetic acid occurred around 9:45 a.m. while the workers were collecting garbage at the facility, according to a release from the City of Lambertville.

The workers were transported to Cedar Crest at Lehigh Valley Network in Allentown for evaluation and treatment.

The city stated the incident is isolated and poses no immediate danger to the public.

As a precaution, the Hunterdon County Hazardous Materials Unit was dispatched to the area to contain and dispose of the substance. The City of Lambertville Fire Department was also called.

The matter is currently under investigation by city police.

The city stated that there is “no immediate concern for the public.”
