Smoke from Canadian wildfires has blanketed Bucks and Hunterdon counties and the wider region for much of the week.
The gray smoke is blowing in from thousands of miles away and has led to a “moderate” air quality forecast for Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Bucks and Hunterdon counties, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
“If you are unusually sensitive to particle pollution, consider reducing your activity level or shorten the amount of time you are active outdoors,” according to the federal government’s air quality forecasting organization.
This week, a number of major cities, including Chicago, Detroit and Pittsburgh, as well as the Philadelphia region, have experienced degraded air quality from the smoke.
The smoke originates from more than 700 wildfires burning in Canada, according to officials.
The Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre reported that 500 of the wildfires were deemed out of control as of Wednesday.
Despite the haze, the National Weather Service said the forecast looks clear for the coming days.
