Forecasters warned Thursday of possible afternoon and overnight storms capable of producing strong winds and flash flooding.

Bucks and Hunterdon Counties are under a Flood Watch from 2 p.m. Thursday through 6 a.m. Friday.

The National Weather Service’s regional office expects widespread showers and thunderstorms from Thursday afternoon into the overnight hours.

The region is in the moderate risk category for storms, according to the National Weather Service’s regional forecast office.

“Storms will be capable of producing rainfall rates exceeding 2 inches per hour at times,” forecasters said. “Rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are generally expected, with localized amounts of 5 to 7 inches possible.”

Areas with poor drainage, creeks and streams, and those that typically flood face the highest risk.

Damaging winds that could cause power outages are also expected.

City of Lambertville Lt. Robert Brown, who serves as the city’s emergency management coordinator, advised residents to keep alert as the storms roll through.

Solebury Township police warned residents to use “extreme caution” on the roads during storms.

The National Weather Service cautioned drivers never to drive through flooded areas, noting that most flood-related deaths occur when people are in their vehicles.
