A man who confronted Buckingham Township residents with a weapon and then charged at a police officer on Saturday is expected to be charged, the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office said in a press release.

The violent incident occurred on Redfield Road around 4 p.m. Saturday when the man crashed a white van into a parked vehicle in the 4800 block, according to the statement.

When residents came outside, the man aggressively pursued them while “shouting politically and religiously charged statements,” authorities said.

The man’s actions forced the residents to retreat and lock themselves inside their home, authorities said.

When a Buckingham Township police officer arrived at the scene, the man turned his aggression toward the officer. The officer deployed a Taser, but it was ineffective at stopping the man, investigators said.

As the man continued to advance, the officer discharged his gun, striking the man, authorities said.

The officer rendered aid, and the man was transported to a hospital, per officials.

The district attorney’s office said charges were expected to be filed against the man upon his release from the hospital.

Authorities stated that two weapons were recovered from the man.

In line with standard protocol for all police-involved shootings in Bucks County, the incident is being investigated by the Bucks County Detectives and will be reviewed by District Attorney Jennifer Schorn.
