Scott W. Petrie, 56, of Deerfield Court in Solebury, was tragically killed Sunday afternoon when his motorcycle struck an SUV that police say failed to yield at an intersection.

The accident occurred at 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Route 512 and Jaindl Boulevard in Hanover Township in Northampton County. Police say a Ford Explorer traveling southbound on Route 512 failed to yield when attempting to make a left turn, and Petrie’s bike, traveling north on Route 512, crashed into the passenger side of the vehicle.

Petrie was pronounced dead at the hospital. The driver of the Explorer suffered minor injuries, and has not been named, although citations were apparently issued, and the crash officially remains under investigation.

Petrie was born Oct. 30, 1959, and raised in Solebury Township. He graduated from Gordon College, then lived in Massachusetts for some time before returning to Pennsylvania, where he and his wife Janice raised their family. Petrie attended the New Hope Community Church, worked as a carpenter, and most recently was employed at New Hope-Solebury High School as a custodian.

He is survived by his wife Janice Beveridge Petrie, his children, Megan Ramirez (Manny), Brandon, and Kira. Petrie was the son of the late Dr. Jay Petrie and is also survived by his mother, Patricia, sisters Linda Gulbransen (Ned), Beth Mitchell (Stuart), his grandson Miles Ramirez, and many nieces and nephews.

A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 12 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 311 W. State St., in Doylestown, followed by a reception where guests are invited to greet the family. Cremation will be private, according to Garefino Funeral Home in Lambertville.
