Word on the street says it’s time to start thinking about filling the canal and getting the barges down from Center Bridge before work starts on the bridge up north — or we won’t see mules and barges for some time to come. The canal can hold water say insiders. Public hearings on barge concession ownership are up soon, it’s reputed. Will the current holder bring the mules back to our towpath anytime soon?
