A winter storm system is forecast to bring several inches of snow to the region beginning Friday afternoon.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Advisory for the area.

Forecasters expect the New Hope-Lambertville area to receive between 2 and 4 inches of snow before the system moves out Saturday morning.

The storm could to include periods of sleet and freezing rain on Friday night.

Meteorologists noted that areas near the I-95 corridor could see accumulations of ice.

โ€œThere is the potential for a sharp gradient in snow accumulation due to sleet mixing in dashed area,โ€ forecasters said in a statement.

Road crews are preparing for hazardous conditions on the road.

Crews from PennDOT and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission will pre-treat roadways where necessary to prevent ice from bonding to the pavement.

Officials warned that salt cannot eliminate all risks.

Drivers are advised to remain alert for icy patches, including on bridges and highway ramps where ice forms more quickly.

Officials noted that in freezing temperatures, roads that appear wet may actually be icy.

The timing of the storm coincides with heavy holiday traffic.

โ€œWe really urge all drivers to exercise caution and avoid travel if the conditions warrant it,โ€ said Pennsylvania Turnpike CEO Mark Compton. โ€œIf that is not possible, please slow down, practice safe driving habits, and call *11 for any type of support while on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.โ€
