Timothy Barton Wins District Judge Race

District courts are the first level of the state’s Unified Judicial System.

Democrat Timothy Barton secured victory Tuesday over Republican Heather Hines in the contested race to become the area’s next district judge.

Barton, an attorney, will take the bench in the new year.

Barton will succeed District Judge Maggie Snow, who did not seek reelection.

Both Barton and Hines are attorneys.

Barton, a resident of Buckingham Township, has prior experience as a public defender and has served in court as a guardian ad litem for both children and older adults.

The district court Barton is set to oversee covers New Hope Borough, Solebury Township, and Buckingham Township.

District courts are the first level of the state’s Unified Judicial System. District judges oversee preliminary arraignments and preliminary hearings; summary offenses; traffic offenses; municipal code violations; landlord and tenant cases; and civil claims where damages are not more than $12,000. District courts are the most common interaction the public has with the judicial system.
