VIDEO: Heart-pounding footage of police rescuing horse from burning barn

Hilltown Township Police released dramatic video footage of a horse being rescued from a burning barn last week by two heroic, tenacious officers.

When police arrived at the scene of the fire in the 1500 block of Hilltown Pike on the morning of July 23, they saw a large barn with heavy smoke and flames showing. On the video, bystanders can be heard yelling to responding officers that there was still a horse inside the burning barn.

Officers Matthew Reiss and Kristian Hanus immediately entered the structure and began trying to extricate the horse from its stall. They struggled with the terrified animal, ultimately pulling it from the barn with the help of a farm worker.

The Hilltown Fire Company and several other area companies arrived a short time later to find the building fully engulfed in flames. In total, 15 fire companies and six EMS units from Bucks and Montgomery Counties responded to the two-alarm blaze.

EMS tended to eight people that required medical attention at the scene, four of whom were transported to area hospitals. Both officers also received minor injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Bucks County Fire Marshal’s Office and Hilltown Police.
