Congressman Fitzpatrick criticizes Trump for failing to confront Putin

Republican Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-08) released a statement Monday criticizing President Trump for failing to challenge Russian President Putin on Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election.

“Our nation must never tolerate a Russian autocrat that seeks to interfere in our elections,” Fitzpatrick said. “As a former FBI Special Agent, I support our Intelligence Community, and I stand by their conclusions. President Trump missed the mark today in failing to confront Vladimir Putin on these realities,” Fitzpatrick said.

“The President must acknowledge that Putin directed Russian actors to interfere and undermine our democratic process,” Fitzpatrick continued. “Russia is not our ally and Putin is a KGB thug. We must serve harsh justice to those who engage in activities that threaten our democracy, continue an illegal occupation in Ukraine, and support the brutal Assad regime in Syria.”

Last year, Fitzpatrick voted to enact new sanctions on Russia. He also co-sponsored the DISARM Act [H.R. 5216] directing the president to impose sanctions on senior political figures and oligarchs in the Russian Federation and other related Russian entities.

Fitzpatrick represents Pennsylvania’s 8th District, which includes all of Bucks County as well as a portion of Montgomery County.

  • Too little too late Congressman. Your weakness on this issue is very apparent by your lack of action. Your every vote is aligned with bad policies that stem from your party’s unrelenting partisanship. You are not the independent voice you purport to be. Republicans are a disease infected by dirty money and need to be expunged from government. Repeal and Replace Republicans by voting for Scott Wallace this November.

    • Dear Mark, I am a Republican and I am disease-free. Liberalism, on the other hand, is an incurable mental disease from which, I suspect, you are suffering. I recognize the symptoms. Seek help or #WalkAway.

      • As a fiscal conservative and business owner, I agree with certain aspects of the Trump administrations policies but vehemently oppose the lack of tact and utter partisanship displayed by the president. HIs behavior, both personal and as president, are diametrically opposed to the fundamentals of conservatism. Sandra, you are not a conservative; you are an ideologue who doesn’t understand the political philosophy assigned to the conservative movement. Please use better judgement than retorting with further name calling and do what is best for the unity of the country. Also, liberalism is not a mental disease but a converse political position to conservatism; you just won’t hear that on Fox News. Mike, please use the same discretion and don’t follow the president’s lead of childish name calling and devisive rhetoric. We are facing a real issue in this country; it’s time to act like adults.

  • Talk is Cheap, Congressman Fitzpatrick. This President is a Dishonest Horror and a Threat to DEMOCRACY. He needs to be Peacefully and Lawfully Removed asap.
