Keller Takes New Hope; McEwan, Baicker Win in Solebury; Ambulance Referendum Passes

New Hope Mayor Larry Keller.

New Hope Mayor Larry Keller decisively fended off a challenge by Democrat Geri Delevich to hang on to the position he’s held since 1998. Keller won 628 votes to Delevich’s tally of 382 in Tuesday’s election.

Peter Meyer, Dan Dougherty, Tina Leifer Rettig, and Connie Gering all walked unopposed into four-year spots on New Hope Borough Council. And Democrat Liz Miles squeaked past long-time New Hope tax collector Denton Kanouff by six votes — garnering 487 votes to her Reublican rival’s 481.

In the race for Solebury Township Board of Supervisors, Democrat Robert McEwan defeated Republican Dominic C. Marano for a six-year term, and Democrat Mark Baum Baicker blew past Republican Michael Spadaccini for a two-year stint.

Also in Solebury, Democrat Dottie Carr raced by Republican Bob Carr in the contest for tax collector.

And the New Hope and Solebury ambulance and rescue squad annual millage tax referendum passed by a wide margin.

Elizabeth K. Sheehan, Deirdre Alderfer, Dana Schwartz, and Andrew Ordover marched to victory unopposed in the vote for New Hope-Solebury School District Board of School Directors.

Polling places were packed Tuesday.

Among other Bucks County contests, Democrat Neale Dougherty defeated Republican Michael J. Gallagher for County Controller, Democrat Milt Warrell ousted incumbent Sheriff Edward “Duke” Donnelly, and Republican Matt Weintraub bested Democrat Rick Scholer for District Attorney.

Considering the fact that some of the new officials such as the county’s Controller’s office, the Prothonotary office and the Recorder of Deed’s office, ” will have a certain level of autonomy when it comes to hiring employees..”[Intelligencer, 11/09/17]these new officials must hire people on the basis of their qualifications which hopefully are very high.

We don’t live in New Hope anymore but Larry was an awesome neighbor and all around good guy! His “politics” didn’t mean anything as all he did was say hello in the morning when we walked the pups … be friendly and shovel snow when no one else did. Congratulations Larry from us!!!!!
