Cancer is the number one disease killer of children in the U.S. and Canada. Despite that fact, childhood cancer research is severely underfunded each year. St. Baldrick’s is looking to change that by raising funds through head-shaving events worldwide. Volunteers shave their heads at these events to stand in solidarity with children who typically lose their hair during treatment. St. Baldrick’s events have raised approximately $149 million, providing research grants to doctors and scientists at more than 200 institutions to pursue the most promising new cures for childhood cancer, in addition to making clinical trials available to more children than ever. Since 2000, St. Baldrick’s has hosted more than 5,500 head-shaving events, shaving more than 244,000 heads in 30 countries and 50 U.S. states.
This year we are shaving heads in honor of our friends Ethan Toohey and Robert Nagg. I invite you to join our event! You can raise money and awareness by having your head shaved, volunteer at the event or just show up to let our shavees know you appreciate what they are doing to help children with cancer. If you accept this invitation to join us, we fully welcome your creativity and ideas that are sure to enhance the fun at our event. So far we have great raffle prizes lined up, lots of yummy food and performances by NHS musicians!
Please feel free to contact me at mjddupont@gmail.com for more information and to volunteer. Our event is scheduled for Saturday, March 15th from 9am to 2pm at the Upper Elementary School. I invite you to visit our event website at http://www.stbaldricks.org/
