yoganandaAWAKE: The Life of Yogananda will be shown six times April 3-5 at ACME Screening Room, 25 N. Union St. in Lambertville.  (Followed by Discussion with Sue Elkind, DIG Yoga)

The biographical film explores the life of Hindu Swami, who brought yoga and meditation to the West in the 1920s. Paramahansa Yogananda authored the spiritual classic Autobiography of a Yogi which has sold millions of copies worldwide, and is a go-to book for seekers, philosophers and yoga enthusiasts today. It was the only book that Steve Jobs had on his iPad, according to the film’s promotional literature, which goes on to say that Yogananda made ancient Vedic teachings accessible to a modern audience, attracting many followers and inspiring the millions who practice yoga today.

Said ACME Executive Director Sara Scully, “We have to credit our patrons for this one. We have had half a dozen requests for this film, and that put it on our radar!”

Filmed over three years with the participation of 30 countries around the world, AWAKE: The Life of Yogananda examines the world of yoga and explores why millions today have turned their attention inwards in pursuit of self-realization.

Tickets can be purchased online, where a schedule also shows which screenings include a post-movie discussion.
