New Hope Borough police said they responded to John and Peter’s Place on South Main Street on Sept. 20 at 1:36 a.m. after employees reported a man, later identified as Herrera Arevalo, yelling at an employee.

When officers arrived, Herrera Arevalo was sitting on a bench near the bar and was allegedly yelling over the phone that he did nothing wrong, police said.

An employee said Herrera Arevalo was not allowed on the property, according to a police affidavit.

Police said they attempted to intervene and ask him to leave the premises, but he reportedly refused multiple times.

At one point, Herrera Arevalo stood up, “walked in an aggressive manner” towards the bartender, and began yelling and screaming, according to a police affidavit.

Police said they tried to place Herrera Arevalo into custody, but he allegedly elbowed and kicked an officer multiple times.

He attempted to flee, police said, but a physical struggle ensued, and Herrera Arevalo bit the bartender.

Herrera Arevalo was arrested after police received assistance.

While in the police vehicle, he managed to place his handcuffs in front of his body and attempted to climb to the front of the vehicle, police said. He allegedly tried to take a rifle by the front passenger seat, according to police.
