Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro has built a massive financial advantage in his reelection bid and has reported more than 10 times the fundraising haul of his Republican challenger, state Treasurer Stacy Garrity, during the first quarter of 2026.

According to reports filed with the Pennsylvania Department of State, Shapiro, a Democrat, raised $10,498,316.84 in the first three months of the year.

The contributions add to a significant balance carried over from last year, bringing his total campaign war chest to $36,121,352.52 after accounting for $4,579,180.89 in spending.

Garrity reported raising $1,007,109.85 in the first quarter.

Combined with the $1,048,081.15 she raised last year and subtracting expenses, the Republican incumbent treasurer has $1,527,684.25 on hand. Her campaign also reported $140,354.38 in unpaid debts and obligations.

Shapiro’s campaign noted the incumbent has raised more than twice as much as the past record for a Keystone State gubernatorial campaign for the first quarter fundraising period.

According to reporting from abc27 Harrisburg, Shapiro’s largest donation last year came from former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who donated $2.5 million, while Garrity’s biggest donation came from Philadelphia-area University City Housing Company, which gave $250,000.

Matt Beynon, a spokesperson for Garrity, said the campaign received 96 percent of its donations from Pennsylvania and 90 percent are for $100 or less.

“Josh Shapiro has never faced an opponent like Stacy Garrity, and it is clear that she will have the resources to hold him accountable for his failures and ethical scandals that have hurt Pennsylvania families,” said Beynon, who hammered Shapiro for fundraising trips to New York and Los Angeles.

“In this campaign, Governor Shapiro and Pennsylvanians from all across the Commonwealth are highlighting the work the Governor and Lieutenant Governor Davis have done to deliver on the issues that matter most,” Shapiro’s campaign said in a statement.

The governor’s campaign said he received donations from all 67 Pennsylvania counties and all 50 states.

The latest filings showing the large fundraising gap comes after polling put Shapiro in the lead in the nationally-watched race.

A Susquehanna Polling and Research survey of 700 likely Pennsylvania voters conducted March 18-29 shows Shapiro with a 22-point lead over Garrity. The poll found 58 percent of respondents support the incumbent, while 36 percent favor Garrity. Five percent remained undecided.

The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.

Garrity, who has been endorsed by President Donald Trump, recently traveled to the president’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida for a fundraiser. In a video circulated on social media, the president criticized the governor, calling Shapiro “a stiff.”

Although State Sen. Doug Mastriano, a Republican, decided not to run again for governor, some of his supporters are running a write-in campaign for the conservative lawmaker who lost to Shapiro in 2022, according to Politics PA.
