Low-income residents can now schedule appointments for free tax preparation services through the Bucks County Opportunity Council’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

The program, which has served the community for 21 years, provides IRS-certified tax preparation for individuals and families with a combined annual income of $69,000 or less.

Services are available through April 15 at five locations across the county, including Bristol, Doylestown, Quakertown, and Newtown.

The program relies on a network of volunteers who undergo training on federal, state, and local tax laws.

According to the nonprofit, volunteers focus on identifying credits specifically for low- to moderate-income households, like the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit.

To qualify for the program, each volunteer must pass an annual IRS-certification exam.

According to data from the BCOC, the impact of the program is significant for the local economy.

In 2025, volunteers filed 1,577 tax returns, which resulted in more than $2.3 million in combined refunds, tax credits, and saved preparation fees.

Appointments are required and requests to schedule a personal time are open. To request an appointment, visit VITA: Volunteer Income Tax Assistance – Bucks County Opportunity Council.

For questions, please reach out to Danielle Bush, Volunteer and Community Connections Manager, at dbush@bcoc.org or call 215-345-8175 ext. 209.

VITA is a national program sponsored by the IRS. Locally, the Bucks County chapter receives support from the Bucks County Foundation and First National Bank and Trust Company of Newtown.
