Erie Insurance has been making “strong and steady progress” in restoring its operations following a security breach that prompted a network and system outage starting on June 7.

The company said it took quick actions to contain the threat and have found “no evidence of ransomware and no indication of ongoing threat actor activity.”

In an update on June 23, the insurer reported that it has safely and securely reconnected several business systems and applications after a thorough review by both internal teams and external cybersecurity teams, according to state statement.

The Erie-based company said the investigation into what, if any, data may have been impacted is ongoing.

The law firm of Levi and Korsinsky LLP issued a statement that said names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, policy details, and driver’s license numbers were potentially impacted. The law firm said it is investigating the breach.

Erie Insurance stated it has control of its systems and has implemented additional security measures to strengthen them.

While systems are being brought back online, Erie Insurance is encouraging customers to remain vigilant about their personal security. The company has issued a strong warning that it will not contact customers by phone or email to request payments. Customers are advised to be wary of any suspicious links and to avoid sharing personal information, usernames, or passwords via phone or email.

Customers who need to file a claim can still do so by contacting their local agent or Erie Insurance’s First Notice of Loss team at 1-800-367-3743. Customer Care is also available at 1-800-458-0811.
