Downtown New Hope gets a barbershop

First a new grocery store, now a barbershop — New Hope is on a roll.

House of Handsome unisex barbershop has opened its doors at the corner of West Ferry Street and Stockton Avenue, and was doing a brisk business on Saturday.

“It’s manly enough so you look in the window and know it’s a barbershop, but it’s a family unisex barbershop for men, women and kids,” said owner Steven Giovanniello.

Owner Steven Giovanniello

Born in Staten Island, Giovanniello grew up in Edison, N.J., moved to New Hope in 1993, and taught art in Trenton schools.

“The neighborhood has been really welcoming, and the response has been great,” he said. “”I bill myself as a stylist barber beardsmith. I do old fashion barbering: hot shaves with a hot towel, hot lather on the neck, straight blade cleanup — the men’s haircut comes with all that.”

What’s not to like?

Hours to start will be Thursday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and while walk-ins are okay, making an appointment by phone at (267) 454-8719 is ideal.
