Annual High Heel Drag Race charges through New Hope Oct. 21

New Hope Celebrates will hold its annual High Heel Drag Race on Sunday, Oct. 21, on West Mechanic Street in New Hope.

During the popular event, now in its 15th year, racers in Halloween costumes don high heels and dash up the hill on West Mechanic Street carrying a pumpkin. At the top of the hill, they decorate the pumpkin, then dash back downhill to the finish line.

The high heel drag race also features a 50/50 raffle, and live performances by New Hope celebrities Miss Pumpkin, Thunder Showers, and Summer Clearance.

Registration to compete is free of charge, and begins at 4:30 p.m. at the New Hope Visitor Center on the corner of West Mechanic and South Main streets. The race itself will start at around 5:30 p.m., say organizers.

“We are grateful to keep this long-standing tradition alive,” said New Hope Celebrates President Matt Hanson.

The Logan Inn at 10 W. Ferry St. will host a glamorous party right after the race. A cash bar, drink specials, and light fare will be available, and race winners will be announced 7:30 p.m.

West Mechanic Street between South Main and New streets will be closed from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. for the event.
