Report of smoke at New Hope-Solebury Upper Elementary School draws massive emergency response

Smoke from an air conditioning system malfunction at the New Hope-Solebury Upper Elementary School drew emergency responders from New Hope and surrounding communities Thursday afternoon.

New Hope Eagle Volunteer Company roared into action at 12:54 p.m., followed swiftly by firefighters from Lambertville, Lahaska, Point Pleasant, Upper Makefield, and Lingohocken, along with Lambertville-New Hope Ambulance & Rescue Squad and Central Bucks EMS.

The sight of the gargantuan aerial ladder brought to bear by Lambertville Fire Department #17 dominated the scene.

Witnesses said the source of the trouble appeared to be an electrical problem in the central air system that was pushing smoke throughout the building. The situation was quickly brought under control, and efforts turned to flushing out smoke from the system.

Although school is not in session, a report of a fire there at any time of year tends to draw a massive emergency response.

Teachers and other staff in the building were evacuated. Fortunately, no injuries were reported at the scene.
