On Thursday, July 31, 2014, Sfc. Michael O’Rourke responded to a report on Church Street. The complainant/victim stated he had advertised furniture for sale on Craig’s List. Victim was contacted by someone identifying himself as ‘Fred Peters.’ A price was negotiated for the sale. The victim received two money orders in the mail, then received an email containing a convoluted story about why Peters had to send the two money orders.

Peters requested that the money orders be deposited and that the victim send him back the difference using Western Union. The address provided to the victim was in Africa. The victim recognized this as a scam, and took no further action.
