As residents are bracing for a stretch of dangerously high temperatures, the City of Lambertville is planning for how that will impact city services through the Independence Day holiday weekend.

An extreme heat watch issued by the National Weather Service will take effect Wednesday afternoon and remain in place through Saturday evening. Forecasters predict temperatures could soar as high as 105 degrees.

City officials announced that municipal trash and recycling collection routes will begin earlier than usual this week. Crews will start collections at 5 a.m. to allow workers to complete their routes before the day’s peak heat.

Residents are asked to place all items at the curb the night before or prior to the 5 a.m. start time.

The upcoming July Fourth holiday will also impact the standard sanitation schedule. The Zone 4 trash and recycling pickup regularly scheduled for Friday will instead be collected on Monday, July 6.

City officials asked residents to prioritize safety by staying hydrated, keeping cool and checking on vulnerable neighbors and pets during the heat wave. Guidelines recommend drinking plenty of water before feeling thirsty and spending time in air-conditioned environments.

The city also reminded the public to never leave children or animals unattended in parked vehicles.
