A box truck wedged beneath a wooden structural awning at the Inn at the Lambertville Station forced a hours-long emergency response and a hazardous materials transfer late last week.
No injuries were reported in the incident, which began around 9:11 p.m. last Thursday when emergency crews were called to the hotel along the Delaware River, according to the City of Lambertville Fire Department.
At the business, fire crews found the box truck trapped tightly under the hotel’s structural awning.
After determining no one was hurt, the responding supervisor established command and requested assistance from the city’s fire chief and the city’s building official.
The fire chief evaluated photos from the scene and ordered specialized recovery equipment, including two 50-ton heavy-duty wreckers and an 85-ton rotator, from Rob’s Towing and Hauling based in Bristol Township, Bucks County.

Officials also notified the Hunterdon County Hazmat Team and the Hunterdon County Board of Health.
After officials looked at the vehicle’s transportation paperwork and bill of lading, officials upgraded the incident to a hazardous materials response.
The hazmat team, which was assisted by local firefighters, safely transferred the hazardous cargo from the disabled box truck into an alternate vehicle, the fire department said.,
Once the hazardous materials were secured, the heavy-duty wreckers were positioned to lift the heavy wooden awning, allowing crews to slide the truck out from underneath the damage.
The scene was fully cleared and all emergency units departed by 4 a.m. last Friday, authorities said.
The Lambertville-New Hope Ambulance and Rescue Squad, the City of Lambertville Police Department, and the Lambertville Office of Emergency Management also assisted at the scene.
