Solebury Township has secured a $1,497,400 state grant to construct a new multimodal trail.

The funding was awarded recently by PennDOT through the Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside program. It will finance the first phase of the upcoming Solebury Green park project, the township said in a social media post.

Plans for the new pathway feature a 10-foot-wide multi-use trail spanning roughly 1,320 feet, alongside an estimated 280 feet of boardwalk designed to respect the surrounding environment.

The project will be located along Lower York Road, between Reeder Road and Shire Drive.

Township officials said the project is designed to fill gaps in the local trail network while boosting overall connectivity, accessibility, and safety for both cyclists and pedestrians.

The trail will feature Americans with Disabilities Act-accessible components and is intended to anchor future pathway connections stretching throughout the park and into nearby areas.

“This award is an important investment in Solebury Townshipโ€™s long-term vision for a safe, connected, and accessible community,” township officials said in a statement. “It will enhance access to Solebury Green and create new opportunities for recreation and connectivity.”

Solebury Green is a planned 13-acre community park property that the township acquired in 2020. The site once was the home to the New Hope Flea Market.

The township is slated to advance the project into its next stages, which include final design plans, environmental reviews, and the permitting process.

In announcing the grant, local officials thanked residents, consultants, and project partners for their ongoing backing. They extended thanks to State Sen. Steve Santarsiero and State Rep. Tim Brennan for their support.
