Penn Medicine Doylestown Health has appointed a veteran administrator and physician to lead the organization.
Craig Gronczewski will take over as CEO on June 1, the health system announced this week.
Gronczewski succeeds Jim Brexler, who departed after 13 years at the helm of Doylestown Hospital and its network of offices.
Gronczewski arrives from Penn Medicine Princeton Health, where he has served as chief medical officer and vice president of medical affairs since December 2020.
The incoming CEO was credited in Princeton with launching a neurohospitalist program and expanding obstetric services, including the implementation of a 24/7 laborist program to ensure constant physician coverage for maternity patients.
Gronczewski’s career also includes a tenure as chair of emergency medicine at Princeton Medical Center and a role as managing partner of Princeton Emergency Physicians.
โDr. Gronczewski has demonstrated a strong commitment to quality, patient safety, and a collaborative leadership that drives lasting results,โ said Kevin Mahoney, CEO of the University of Pennsylvania Health System.
Mahoney said Gronczewskiโs “deep roots” within the Penn Medicine network would help bridge the gap between clinical operations and organizational strategy as the Doylestown system moves forward.
The leadership transition comes one year after the completion of Doylestown Healthโs merger with Penn Medicine.
Brexler, the outgoing CEO, oversaw a period of growth, including capital investments in surgical facilities, diagnostic services, and cardiovascular care. His tenure was also marked by navigating the hospital through the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a message to staff, Brexler expressed confidence in the future of the organization and noted that a transition plan is currently underway.
The hospital held a reception on April 29 to honor his years of service.
