City of Lambertville Police Department Lt. Robert Brown is now Chief Robert Brown.

With a vote by city council last week, Brown became Lambertville’s first police chief in three decades.

The appointment came after the council’s approval of an ordinance to amend the city code to include the position of police chief alongside the vacant police director role.

“I think we need one,” Mayor Andrew Nowick said regarding the police chief position during the meeting.

Brown had been the department’s highest-ranking sworn official and served as the officer in charge overseeing the agency.

Nowick said that the last time Lambertville had a police chief was in 1996.

The move received support from the council members present and mayor.

The mayor stated that a public swearing-in ceremony will be held for Brown.

Brown had served in this role since 2014 when he became the city’s first lieutenant in 21 years.
