President Donald Trump has endorsed Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity for governor.
In a Truth Social post late Tuesday, Trump referred to Garrity, a Republican, as a “true America First Patriot” and offered his “Complete and Total Endorsement.”
The president called the candidate as a “true America First Patriot.”
Trump stated that Garrity would work to grow the economy, reduce taxes and regulations, and prioritize domestic manufacturing and energy production. He also cited her commitment to military and veteran support, border security, election integrity, and the Second Amendment.
Garrity, a U.S. Army veteran, said on social media she was “honored” by the president’s support.
Garrity highlighted Trump’s victories in Pennsylvania during the 2016 and 2024 elections and characterized Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro as the president’s “number one adversary.”
“I am looking forward to working with President Trump and his team to defeat Josh Shapiro this November,” she posted.
The endorsement firms up Garrity’s position as the GOP frontrunner.
State Sen. Doug Mastriano, who received Trump’s backing during his unsuccessful 2022 gubernatorial run against Shapiro, recently announced he would not challenge Garrity in the spring primary.
Garrity enters the race with a history of strong electoral performance. In 2024, she won reelection as treasurer with nearly 3.5 million votes, which set a record for the highest vote total ever received by a Keystone State race.
Shapiro, a former state representative and attorney general from Montgomery County, is currently promoting a new book as he ramps up his reelection campaign.
The governor is often cited as a potential 2028 Democratic presidential contender.
On Tuesday, Shapiro filed a legal challenge over the federal government’s removal of an exhibit at Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia. The exhibit detailed the lives of enslaved people owned by George Washington.
The Pennsylvania Democratic Party responded to the Trump endorsement on X, formerly Twitter, claiming it ties Garrity to “harmful, unpopular policies,” including health care cost increases and tariffs.
Izzi Levy, a spokesperson for the Democratic Governors Association, said Garrity had gone “full MAGA” to earn the president’s endorsement.
Levy said Garrity’s support for Trump administration policies would have a negative impact on Pennsylvanians.
