The Bucks County Commissioners have appointed Dan Grieser as the new county solicitor.

The appointment was approved in a vote last month by the commissioners, two Democrats and one Republican.

The move promotes Grieser to lead the Bucks County Law Department.

Grieser succeeds Amy Fitzpatrick, who left the job after winning a seat as a county judge. Fitzpatrick began work as a judge this week.

Grieser joined the county’s law department in 2021. He previously served as assistant county solicitor and deputy county solicitor before being selected for the top post.

During his time in the office, he has been a fixture at public meetings, including those held by the Bucks County Board of Elections.

In his new role, Grieser is responsible for overseeing all litigation brought by or against the county, its subdivisions, and its more than 2,000 employees.

According to a press release, Grieser duties also include providing legal counsel to the commissioners, county departments, and the salary and retirement boards.

Grieser is a retired lieutenant colonel from the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps.

Grieser has more than 25 years of experience representing government agencies at various levels.

After his military retirement, he served as a municipal solicitor for several local governments, including Newtown and Middletown townships and the Centennial School District.

Grieser is a graduate of Audubon High School, Moorhead State University, and the University of North Dakota Law School. He also holds a Master of Laws in military law from the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School.
