Commuters who use the New Hope-Lambertville Toll-Supported Bridge should brace for temporary weekday daytime lane restrictions next week.

The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission announced that flagger-controlled, alternating single-lane travel will be necessary for a critical maintenance project will be starting next Monday, Nov. 17.

The lane closures will be in effect from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The initial phase is scheduled for next week and may extend into Nov. 24 and 25, if weather or other conditions require it, officials said.

Motorists traveling between New Hope Borough and the City of Lambertville are advised to plan for potential short-duration travel delays during the restricted hours.

The work is essential to set up a temporary work platform beneath the bridge deck.

According to the commission, a contractor will be installing steel panels to create a safe platform for electricians. The platform will allow crews to replace several short-circuiting electrical junction boxes located across the bridge.

The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission expects the installation of the steel panels to be finished before the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

The actual replacement of the compromised electrical connection boxes is slated to begin shortly after the holiday, on Dec. 2.

The electrical work will be done from the temporary platform and is not expected to affect two-way traffic on the bridge, officials said.

The commission noted that a future set of alternating single-lane restrictions will be necessary later on to safely remove the work platform and its supporting steel cables.

The commission asked all bridge users to reduce their speed, strictly adhere to the instructions provided by the flaggers, and exercise extreme caution whenever work crews are present in the travel lanes of the bridge.
