The Delaware Valley Veterans Expo will take place this weekend with the goal to connect more veterans with available services and resources.

The expo is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 10, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Parx Casino in Bensalem Township.

Bucks County Veterans Affairs Director Matt Allen noted that the main purpose of the event is to reach veterans who are not currently accessing assistance.

“Only 24% of the veterans in Bucks County are receiving services,” Allen said. “I’m trying to get that number up.”

The Bucks County Department of Veterans Affairs has processed more than 2,000 claims this year.

The expo aims to raise awareness among those who may be unaware of available resources and benefits.

“We’re getting there, but we’re not reaching everyone yet,” Allen said. “This expo is something to bring awareness to it.”

The event is intended to be a one-stop opportunity for veterans to learn about various programs and assistance, Allen explained.

Allen also brought attention to the approaching 25th anniversary of the USS Cole bombing on Oct. 12, 2000. He said one of the 17 Americans killed in the attack was from Morrisville Borough.

“I actually had the privilege of serving with the master chief that was on board that was able to triage a lot of the injured sailors on that ship that day,” Allen said.

Editor’s Note: The story has been updated to note the event is on Friday, Oct. 10.
