Fisherman’s Mark is excited to announce Spoonfuls of Support, a one-day pop-up fundraiser featuring handcrafted wooden spoons by local artist John McDevitt. The event will take place Sunday, June 8, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Stockton Market, with 100% of proceeds benefiting Fisherman’s Mark’s Feeding Local Youth (FLY) program.
Each spoon is a work of art — hand-carved, one-of-a-kind, and created with intention and care. For McDevitt, spoon carving is both craft and cause. “Wood is a partner in the process. It has an idea already. It has personality, attitude, and is showing the way,” he says. “Spoons are a great way to give back to a cause that I believe in. Ending hunger, in our community, one scoop at a time.”
That guiding belief led him to launch ScoopKitchen.org, where he raises funds for hunger-related causes through the sale of his spoons. McDevitt’s artistic approach reflects the ceremonial roots of the spoon itself — once a symbol of prestige, generosity, and spiritual power. “Artistic scoops and spoons are perfect for this cause,” he shares. “I cannot think of a better way to connect with you and give back to our community.”
McDevitt has supported many food justice causes, but this time, he specifically chose to spotlight Fisherman’s Mark’s Feeding Local Youth (FLY) Program – a vital initiative that provides weekend meals for children during the school year, and weekday meals during summer months. In 2024, 2,840 lunches were prepared and delivered to local kids, tucked into sling bags with small games or coloring books. The program eliminates stigma by creating a sense of celebration – kids are excited to receive their lunches, and their peers often ask, “What did you get?”
“Children are the future,” says McDevitt. “Kids should not go to school hungry. I want to do a small part to help make sure they get a good breakfast or lunch.”
For Stockton Market, this event represents a natural extension of its renewed community mission. “Since the revival of Stockton Market, partnering with Fisherman’s Mark to combat hunger in our community has been a top priority,” said Dana Ashburn, owner of the Market. “We’re excited to expand our collaboration beyond food donations with a special fundraiser Pop-Up featuring local artist John McDevitt. 100% of proceeds from his artwork sales will go directly to support Fisherman’s Mark. Shopping beautiful, handcrafted pieces is always special – but it’s even more meaningful when you know you’re shopping for a cause.”
Fisherman’s Mark is equally enthusiastic. “We are so grateful to John for his generosity,” said Jennifer Williford, Executive Director of Fisherman’s Mark. “And I love that he specifically chose the FLY program as the recipient. It’s such an important initiative. It brings joy, nutrition, and peace of mind to local families throughout the year.”
Spoonfuls of Support is open to the public and will run from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Spoons range in price from $100 to $1,000, with all proceeds directly supporting Feeding Local Youth (FLY) and other youth-focused food programs.
