New Hope Borough is about to get a lot greener.

Now that spring is in the air, New Hope Borough Council recently approved their landscaping program for the summer.

The landscaping program is passed each year. However, this year’s is much more ambitious compared to previous years.

The landscaping program will encompass all of North Main Street, the New Hope Visitors Center on West Mechanic Street, Ferry Landing Park by the Delaware River and the old Verizon store lot, among many other areas across borough. This is the first year the Verizon lot is accounted for in the landscaping program.

Council President Ken Maisel called it “a very big initiative” and that the North Main Street parking lot area was a key consideration in this year’s landscaping budget.

In other news, New Hope’s council also unanimously approved a bid for Big Green Lawn Care to water all the borough’s landscaping for $18,000. The contract will entail them to water the borough’s landscaping 16 hours per week for 22 weeks, covering all of spring and summer. The borough received three bids for this project and elected to move forward with Big Green Lawn Care.

Maisel later stated that the borough is  considering giving every street in the borough a facelift. A date for this project has not been made official yet, but Council President Maisel stated if it were to occur, it would be passed through a separate bid.
