During its summer 2024 commencement, Pennsylvania College of Technology honored Michael Wert, a resident of New Hope, with the Distinguished Alumni Award for his contributions in the marketing sector and his ongoing commitment to community service.
Wert, originally from Williamsport, is best known for his role as the co-founder and retired CEO of DiMark Inc., a marketing services company specializing in data-driven solutions for the insurance and healthcare industries.
Under his leadership, DiMark, which was founded in Langhorne, grew into a national powerhouse that eventually went public and was acquired by Harte-Hanks Communications in 1996.
A graduate of Williamsport High School, Wert furthered his education at Penn College predecessor institutions Williamsport Technical Institute and Williamsport Area Community College. He earned an associate degree in technical illustration in 1967.
The New Hope man’s education continued at Broome Technical Community College, Bucks County Community College, and Rider College, where he took various business and technical courses.
The college said in a statement that it selects recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Award based on their professional achievements, the impact of their education at Penn College or its predecessors, their roles in community leadership, and their dedication to the institution.
Wert’s career also includes significant military service, having served in the U.S. Army’s 92nd Field Artillery Battalion, 2nd Armored Division, as a nuclear weapons specialist stationed in Germany from 1970 to 1972. He took a leave of absence from his position at Valley Design in Johnson City, New York, where he was the creative and publications director, to fulfill his military duties.
After his military service, Wert held a key executive role as the senior vice president and chief marketing officer at Union Fidelity Life Insurance in Trevose from 1973 to 1983 before founding DiMark.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Wert has been an participant on various nonprofit and for-profit boards. He currently serves on the Trinity Health North Community Advisory Committee and resides in New Hope with his wife, Susan.
