With the presidential election season coming into focus, Republican former President Donald Trump is taking part in a fundraiser in Newtown Township this month.
Teddy Schleifer, a reporter for news outlet Puck, posted a flyer on Wednesday that says Trump will be coming to the area on Saturday, April 13 for a “special event” that is by invite. The event is being hosted by Newtown Athletic Club owner Jim Worthington and his wife, Kim Levins. The other co-hosts are Debra and Dom Caglioti and Adam Kidan, all of whom are business owners from the region.
Republican sources confirmed the fundraiser posted by Schleifer and one said it is a “high-dollar fundraiser.” They declined to disclose more information.
The fundraiser is expected to be held at in the evening at the Newtown Athletic Club in Newtown Township, sources said.
The Trump campaign didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment, and Worthington was unable to talk because he was in a meeting.
Worthington has been a big supporter of Trump, former U.S. Senate candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz, former U.S. Senate candidate Herschel Walker, and GOP Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick, who is close with Worthington.
A person close to Worthington said he is a frequent guest at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club and home in Florida.
On social media, Worthington has posted a number of photos with Trump and has attended campaign events in other states, including South Carolina.
In 2016, Worthington brought Trump to the Newtown Sports Training and Events Center, which sits next to the Newtown Athletic Club. Worthington was also at Trump’s October 2020 rally in Upper Makefield Township.
In February, Worthington was quoted in a Reuters article that mentioned he had been pushing to get the former president to embrace mail-in ballots this election year.
It is unclear if Fitzpatrick plans to attend the event, and a spokesperson for the lawmaker’s campaign wasn’t immediately available. The congressman was endorsed by Trump in 2020, a endorsement that Fitzpatrick later refused to talk about.
Worthington in the past has hosted fundraisers for Fitzpatrick with GOP advisor and commentator Karl Rove and former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
Trump, the Republican party’s presumptive nominee, has been working to catch up with Biden’s campaign war chest. On Wednesday, the Trump campaign and the national Republican party said they raised more than $65.6 million in March.
