Solebury Township has hired a contractor to complete a section of the Gateway Trail.

Last month, the Solebury Township Board of Supervisors voted to hire Ply-Mar Construction Inc., of Montgomery County, to complete the latest section for $887,576.

Supervisors Chairman Mark Baum Baicker said 12 bids were submitted and four came in lower than what was expected. The Ply-Mar Construction bid was $200,000 lower than expected.

The new section of trail will go 1.6 miles between Sugan Road and Kitchens Lane.

Once completed, the trail will connect Aquetong Spring Park and Canal Park.

Last year, the Solebury Gateway Trail received a state grant worth $464,758 to complete work.

Presently, the trail runs from Canal Park south to the New Hope-Eagle Fire Company station.

Last year, township officials said several pedestrian improvements to traffic signals and intersections are planned along the trail.
