Bucks County Community College has narrowed down the candidates to three finalists in the search for the next president of the institution.

The contenders for the presidency are Dr. John C. Boyd, current president of Mayland Community College; Dr. Patrick M. Jones, chancellor and professor of music at Penn State Schuylkill; and Dr. Evon Washington Walters, president of the Northwest Region at Community College of Allegheny County.

Detailed information about each candidate’s background and qualifications can be found on the community college’s website.

The Presidential Search Committee that was established by the community college’s Board of Trustees recently disclosed the names of the finalists selected for the final phase of the search process.

As part of the selection process, the finalists will engage in open forums with the college’s faculty, staff, and students. These forums will be held in person at the college but will also be accessible virtually.

The candidate visits to the community college will take place this week.

“We are looking forward to the face-to-face meetings with the candidates in the coming weeks,” Board of Trustees Chair Thomas Jennings said. “Each candidate has amassed significant accomplishments in their higher education careers to date. We are excited to learn about their vision and aspirations for Bucks and the communities we serve.”

The search for a new president comes after the departure of Dr. Felicia Ganther, who left the position at the end of last year for personal reasons. Ganther was appointed in 2021 and her contract was initially set to run through July.

The trustees plan on filling the leadership vacancy by July 1.

The college received a total of 75 applications for the job, according to a news release.

RH Perry, a national search firm specializing in higher education, helped the search committee narrow down the list to three finalists.

Following the completion of the candidate forums and the collection of feedback from the college community, the Presidential Search Committee will present its recommendation to the full Board of Trustees for the final decision.
