New Hope Council Vice President Laurie McHugh Dead At 58

The vice president of New Hope Borough Council died Monday.

Council Vice President Laurie McHugh died following a crash in Buckingham Township on Monday afternoon, Bucks County Coroner Meredith Buck told NewHopeFreePress.com.

According to sources, McHugh sustained serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash on Durham Road in the area of York Road in Buckingham Township. The wreck occurred around 1 p.m. A county-wide crash investigation team was dispatched to the scene.

Buckingham Township police posted on Crimewatch that the road was closed for several hours due to the wreck.

Buck said McHugh was pronounced deceased at a local hospital.

Further details on the crash were not immediately available as of 7:30 p.m. on Monday.

McHugh, a Democrat, had been on council since January 2016 after winning in the November 2015 general election.

McHugh was co-founder of the recently opened Union Chill Cannabis Company in the City of Lambertville.

The council vice president co-founded the Bucks County Dragon Boat Association and helped operate a company that offered dragon boat events for corporate team building.
