Passing of Norman L. Hartpence of Lambertville

Norman L. Hartpence, 87, of Lambertville, died on Thursday, Nov. 7, at his home.

Born in Lambertville, Norman was a lifelong city resident. He was employed by the County of Hunterdon as a mason and on construction and highway maintenance. He retired from the county in 1991 after 32 years. At that time, Norman was recognized by Board of Chosen Freeholders for his dedicated service and in recognition for his perfect attendance record. After retiring from the county, Norman was employed by St. John the Evangelist Church in Lambertville, where he worked with the maintenance staff for over 20 years.

For many years, Norman worked with Fred Lewis and the Lewis family fishing for shad on the Delaware River. Norman was a loving family member and friend. He was always ready to lend a hand when needed. He rarely was idle and preferred being busy and active.

Norman was the husband of the late Zona Hart, the son of the late Harry Hartpence, Sr. and Margaret Schible Hartpence, and the brother of the late Laura Cromwell, Norma “Ginger” Hoover (his twin), Vivian Hartpence, George “Hap” Hartpence, Harry C. Hartpence, Jr., Frank Hartpence, Russell Hartpence, and Clarence Hartpence. Norman is survived by his brother, Marvin Hartpence of Interlachen, FL; his many nieces and nephews and their families, and his dear friends and care givers Helen M. Gazzillo and Helen L. Caswell and their family, including Jennifer Caswell, Jeffrey Kerekes, Rachel Caswell, Brandon Caswell and Leah Kerekes.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 11 a.m. at the Van Horn-McDonough Funeral Home, 21 York Street, in Lambertville.

Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until the start of services.
