Dean Ween Group tour dates approach; Fran’s Pub in New Hope up next

dean ween group new hope free pressThe Dean Ween Group — a self-described rotating cast of characters fronted by Dean Ween (Mickey Melchiondo), renowned guitarist, bass master and formerly 50% of the band Ween — is touring, and their next stop is Fran’s Pub in beautiful downtown New Hope on Valentine’s Day 2015.

Melchiondo is a musician to watch if you have the time and money, whether he’s playing with DWG, Moistboyz, Bluebalz, Spooges or under any other banner. And when combined with the gritty, hard-working Guy Heller, it’s one of the better acts around anywhere and worth the dough because there are moments when one senses one is in the presence of greatness, or at least the next town over.

There’s also an underlying punk quality to their work, with some alt rock, hard rock and blues thrown in, along with lyrics that are at times inscrutable but never superfluous. Band members Mick Preston, Keith Hartel, and Ray Kubian hold their weight and add depth.

A regular performer at John and Peter’s just up the block, the Deaner next flashes his punim at Fran’s Pub, 116 S. Main St. as “Miggy” on Feb. 14, 9-10:30 p.m. Tickets are $15, and selling briskly, say owners. Call (215) 862-5539 or stop by Fran’s.
