Winter Lecture: Plant Galls of PA and the Northeast

This presentation will focus on the fascinating world of insect and mite-induced galls and the wide variety of galls and

gall-makers that can be found in Pennsylvania and other northeastern states and surroundings.  You will learn about

these unique growths of distinctive morphologies that can be found on various parts of selected species of plants.  After

this talk, you may find it hard to stop yourself from searching high and low for these often peculiar growths on plants.

Carol C. Mapes, Ph.D. is Professor and Chair of the Kutztown University Biology Department. She received her Ph.D. from

Cornell University and her B.A. from Williams College.  She has been studying insect galls for over 30 years.

This program is the third installment of the Preserve’s Winter Lecture Series. The program will take place on Sunday,

January  24, from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. The fee for Preserve Members is $8 per lecture. The fee for non-members is $12 per

lecture. Seating for all lectures is general admission; arrive early to get the seat of your choice. Advance registration is
