Crowd favorites The Fabulous Greaseband will give the finale performance at Crossing Vineyards’ Summer Wine and Music Series, which this year is being sponsored by Celebrity Cruises.

But just because the seven-piece dance band got the party started to kick off the concert series on May 30 does not mean the audience has already seen what’s in store for the Sept. 12 final show of the season.

“When we take the stage we don’t work from a song list, per se,” The Fabulous Greaseband band leader Harry Pasquito said. “We actually have custom sets. We call the show on the fly every night.”

Attendees can expect to hear “the classics they love to dance to and sing along with,” including rock ‘n’ roll favorites from the ‘50s through the ‘90s.

Pasquito said the 40-year band has followed that spontaneous approach “pretty much from very early on.” Guns ‘N’ Roses and Louis Prima also played in a “go with the flow” format, he said.

Pasquito likened it to “almost like being a quarterback” in that the band is “going play by play.”

So, how does Pasquito communicate what the next song should be?

“The songs all have a hand signal,” he said. “Everybody knows the hand signals in the band.”

In some cases The Fabulous Greaseband’s frequent attendees know how to request songs in a “mock charades kind of thing,” he said.

“The regulars who have seen the band long enough have asked for the songs using my own hand signals,” Pasquito said.

You can catch The Fabulous Greaseband, with or without hand signals, on Sept. 12.
