A combination of generous contributions and creative collaborations is adding up to a very special benefit event to raise money for the oldest free library in Bucks County.

On Saturday, October 11, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., the Free Library of New Hope and Solebury will present “A Grand Evening” at the Lahaska home of photographic artist Paul Grand. The evening will include an elegant four-course dinner and a guided tour throughout Mr. Grand’s home to view more than 200 pieces of his work prior to exhibition at the James A. Michener Art Museum from October through December 2015.

In addition to offering his home for the evening, Grand donated two pieces of his work for a silent auction and also will donate 100 percent of profits from any of his artwork sold during the evening.

Grand is known for his photos of everyday objects that take on deeper meaning because of his ability to capture shapes, colors and textures. He describes himself as a fine art photographer who has traveled the world in search of distinctive images. He holds a Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry from California Institute of Technology and, prior to becoming a full-time photographer, was director of research and development at Colgate-Palmolive.

Tickets to “A Grand Evening” are $250, with seating limited to 50 guests. VIP seating is available for $350; VIPs will sit with Grand at the dinner and be invited to a subsequent luncheon, also at his home. The evening is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. Guests will be met by a valet, then peruse the home’s gardens and ground-level gallery while indulging in French champagne, cocktails and passed hors d’oeuvres. From 6:30 to 7:40 p.m., Grand will conduct a tour of the rest of his home and galleries. Dinner will be served at 8 p.m., followed by desserts and after-dinner cordials, including port wine, until the last guest departs.

“It will be an elegant evening of charitable and artful conversation,” says Lawrence Booth. “And everyone is delighted to be a part of this endeavor that promotes the library, raises money for it, spotlights a local artist, and previews the upcoming exhibit at the Michener Museum. It is a four-way win for our community.”
