The City of Lambertville offered free flu shots on Saturday morning at the District One Fire House at 230 N. Main St.
Nurses from Hunterdon Healthcare were on hand to administer this year’s flu vaccine to early risers and representatives from the Hunterdon County Department of Public Health were present with educational materials that went beyond just flu vaccine information.
Lambertville Mayor Julia Fahl received her own flu shot at the event and indicated she would like to keep this public-private partnership as an annual occurrence around the first week in October.
“I’m really excited to be able to provide this as a service that the city does. This is a way for us to address a public health issue in our community, but also to educate people about the work that the county department of health is doing,” Fahl said.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the 2017-2018 flu season was one of the worst in a decade. The 2018-2019 season was apparently record-breaking as well in length, with flu activity “remaining elevated for 21 weeks.”
Hunterdon Family Medicine at Phillips-Barber, part of the Hunterdon Healthcare network, paid for the day’s services.
Flu shots are fine, but you should try to avoid the ones with preservatives like thimerosal. Google it.
