Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf and PennDOT Secretary Leslie S. Richards today announced the approval of $1,000,000 in funding to build the next segment of the Route 202 Cross-County Trail within the Aquetong Park boundaries in Solebury Township.

Construction of the segment is part of a program consisting of 82 projects considered transportation alternatives, including on- and off-road pedestrian and bicycle facilities, infrastructure projects for improving non-driver access to public transportation, community improvement activities, and environmental mitigation.

Solebury in 2017 completed a connecting trail between Canal Park and the Route 202 Cross-County Trail. The 0.3 mile off-road path along River Road offers a 10-foot-wide, shared-use trail for pedestrians and bicyclists, separated from traffic by grass buffers.

The Route 202 “Parkway” section of the trail stretches nine miles between Doylestown Central Park and Montgomery Mall in Montgomeryville. With an asphalt surface, the trail is completely separated from traffic, crossing multiple roads at signaled crosswalks.

Funding of $985,000 for construction of a 0.8-mile trail along Shady Retreat and Burpee roads in Doylestown was also announced Tuesday. The project will connect several neighborhoods to the Doyle Elementary School, Lenape Middle School and Central Bucks West High Schools.

And the state approved $700,000 for 3,500 linear feet of 10’ multi-use trail in Lower Makefield Township that will connect the existing trail to several township facilities, parks and schools.

  • Seriously, where are the priorities. People dying of heroin overdoses daily in Bucks County, and the state is spending 1 million dollars for a trail in one of the most affluent townships in the state. Come on man.

  • PennDOT 1 Million dollars for a bike trail??? Seriously? What about spending that money to fix the horrible POT hoeles on Route 202? I blew out 3 tires on that road in Solebury this past February. I travel it daily and have to practically drive off the road to avoid the pot holes. First things first PennDOT and Solebury!
