Passing of Lois Wood of Lambertville

Lois J. Wood.

Lois J. Wood, 70, of Lambertville, died Friday, Feb. 9, surrounded by loved ones at her daughter’s home in Stafford Township, N.J.

Daughter of the late George and Mary Susdoft, she is survived by her daughter Kristen Wood and her husband Michael Schermerhorn, her twin sister Lorraine Carmosino and her husband Rick, and her partner of many years, Trish Gazzillo.

Born in Hoboken, Lois had lived in Lambertville for the past 36 years. She graduated from Somerville High School in 1966. She worked at Belmont Forwarder and York Luggage. She also worked in the cafeteria at both South Hunterdon Regional High School and Hunterdon Central Regional High School. Lois volunteered with events at Hibernia Fire Company and at Lambertville-New Hope Rescue Squad.

She loved all types of animals, especially her three grand dogs, Sam, Molly and Woody, and was very generous donating to causes for animals. Lois believed in helping others whenever she could and had a generous heart. She gave clothing, coats, toys, bicycles and food to children and families in need during the holidays. Every year at Christmas, along with her daughter and sister, she would donate food, beds, treats, and toys to local animal shelters.

Her family always came first, and she enjoyed spending time with them and her friends. She also enjoyed her daytime soap operas, walking around town, chatting on the phone with family, and shopping with her daughter. Lois loved living in Lambertville, and enjoyed frequenting local restaurants, especially the Inn of the Hawke, Lambertville Station, and Lilly’s on the Canal.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 24 at 12 p.m. at the Garefino Funeral Home, 12 N. Franklin St., in Lambertville. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or Animal Alliance, 1423 Route 179, Lambertville, NJ 08530.
